The oldest part of Jerusalem, captured by David (2 Sam. 5:7–8) and expanded by Solomon (1 Kgs. 6–7). But in Luke 2:4 Bethlehem is so described, on the ground that it was the ancestral home of King David (Mic. 5:2).
